Another day, another ranking. Today's list comes courtesy The Times. For the sixteenth time, the Times has whipped up a list of the Top 100 Graduate Employers.
By asking 18,336 graduates who left UK university in 2014"Which employer do you think offers the best opportunities for graduates?" the paper has awarded PwC with the top spot yet again. Only three employers can brag they have topped the list since 1999: Accenture, Civil Service, and PwC.
Earlier in the year, PwC said it received a record 24,000 applications for 1,450 job places available, according to economia:
Richard Irwin, PwC head of student recruitment, said, “We’re incredibly proud of this remarkable achievement. Whilst the graduate job market has changed significantly over the last decade, it’s great to see that students’ opinion of us as a prospective employer has remained consistently high.”
You will note, as both I and Richard mention above, that the survey is based on student perception of PwC. Recall back to yourself as a young, stupid, starry-eyed college student and fondly recall that you didn't know shit back then. What is less than shit? That's how much you knew.
Deloitte came in third, KPMG took the coveted 7th spot, EY dragged behind at number eleven and everyone's favorite underdog Grant Thornton will be humblebragging later about taking 62nd place.
One professional services firm that won't be releasing any press releases is BDO, who said they were "obviously dissapointed" not to appear among such legendary competitors as PwC and, well, Grant Thornton.
You know what would be interesting? If they followed up with these graduates 2 years into their careers to see if they still think these firms are all that. Yes, let's do that.
